Mensch und Maschine’s own software grows as Autodesk weighs on profits
Its software business is moving ahead, but weaker earnings from the Autodesk-related business show why the mix of sales matters.
Mensch und Maschine helps customers design products, plan buildings and prepare manufacturing work with software. Some of that software is its own; another part of the business helps customers use Autodesk products. Its results on 20 October show those two activities moving in different directions.
Over the first nine months, own-software sales rose 8.7% to €93.44m, while operating profit in that business grew 18%. Across the whole group, sales rose 6.9% to €189.34m, yet operating profit, measured as EBIT, slipped 0.7% to €36.93m.
The difference came from the Digitization division, where Autodesk-related headwinds reduced gross profit despite higher sales. Because that division contributed less profit, the progress in own software did not translate into group earnings growth.
Management expects a stronger final quarter and believes it could still reach the lower half of its annual earnings-growth target. That remains an outlook. For readers following the business, the next results will show whether the Autodesk-related pressure eases enough for the growth in its own products to become more visible in group profits.
