Avio adds a €55m Aster 30 production order
MBDA has ordered more than €55m of solid-propellant motors and aerodynamic surfaces for the Aster 30 air-defence system, with production spread across three years.
Avio is best known for the Vega launchers, but the same solid-propellant expertise also serves defence programmes. MBDA has now placed a production order worth more than €55m for motors and aerodynamic surfaces used in the Aster 30 air-defence system.
The order sits under an existing framework agreement in France and will be produced over three years. Avio disclosed the value and delivery period, but not the number of units, margin or timing of revenue recognition. The €55m is therefore contracted work to execute, not revenue already earned.
This is repeat business. In July 2025, Avio announced roughly €50m of Aster 30 production work plus about €10m of other MBDA orders, then added more than €35m of air-defence orders in December. The latest order has a shorter stated production period than those earlier five-year awards. That supports Avio's account of rising demand, while also asking the factories to deliver more quickly.
Avio reported an order book of €2.05bn at June 2026 across its wider space and defence activities. The new MBDA order adds about 2.7% to that reference amount before any subsequent order-book movements. It strengthens the defence side of the business, but the announcement does not say how much profit it will generate. The next evidence will come from production delivery and Avio's nine-month update, scheduled for 11 November.
