Turning organic material into usable gas, with profits tied to energy markets
European Tech Equities analysis ·
The investment case
EnviTec offers a way to follow biomethane through a business that already builds, services and operates plants. More demand for usable gas could support both customer projects and its own production. Yet the same operating assets make results sensitive to fuel prices, regulation and the cost of converting existing sites.
Commercial progress
Priborn’s July 2026 start and the Swedish Vara project show how the company is putting its technology to work. Vara’s first gas was expected in January 2027, so the next step is successful commissioning. The June construction order book stood at €143.1 million, but project completion and payment timing still matter.
Customer demand
Customers need a use for suitable organic material and a buyer for the energy it produces. Biomethane can serve gas networks and transport, while maintenance supports plants already operating. Demand therefore depends on energy prices, access to feedstock, local permits and the rules governing renewable fuels.
Financial position
First-half 2026 revenue rose to €169.2 million from €148.4 million, but operating profit fell to €5.3 million from €11.4 million. Cash was €26.8 million at June 30, alongside €143.5 million of bank borrowings. The last published annual cash-flow statement showed €17.8 million of operating cash inflow in 2025, below €31.4 million spent on tangible and intangible assets.
Value and funding
The business should be judged on the cash its plants can generate after investment, alongside the margins earned on construction and services. The planned investment programme could expand production, but it also absorbs capital before the benefits arrive. A recovery in revenue alone would not establish an improvement in returns.
What would weaken the case
- Energy prices and changes to renewable-fuel rules can materially affect plant earnings.
- Construction delays, investment costs and borrowing can limit the cash available to shareholders.
- Biomethane’s climate benefit depends on suitable feedstock and effective methane control.

Each statement retains its reporting period. Charts use comparable periods and a shared accounting basis; a dash means the figure has not been verified on European Tech Equities.
Calculated: margins = profit ÷ revenue; free cash flow = operating cash flow less capital expenditure; net debt = debt less cash; liabilities = assets less equity. The company-specific notes explain what debt includes. Negative net debt represents net cash. Quarterly flows cover each individual quarter; balance sheet figures are at period end.
Consolidated German HGB accounts. Net profit includes non-controlling interests; earnings per share follows the company’s reported basis. The interim report has no cash-flow statement, so cash flow remains dated to 2025. Gross cash includes restricted balances. The company’s EBITDA includes investment income and is not used as statutory EBITDA here.
