Modular hydrogen equipment undergoing a difficult financial reset
European Tech Equities analysis ·
The investment case
Enapter’s technology addresses a clear need: producing hydrogen at the scale and location a customer requires. Its modular design and reduced reliance on scarce catalyst materials give it a distinct approach. For shareholders, however, the immediate question is whether the company can finance that technology through a major restructuring.
Evidence so far
H1 2026 revenue rose to €10.8 million from €5.6 million, helped by deliveries for Italian hydrogen projects. China stack production started in August, and a new US distribution agreement followed in October. These are tangible commercial steps, but they do not yet demonstrate profitable growth or reliable cash collection.
Customer demand
Industrial users and developers of renewable-energy projects are potential customers. Demand depends on affordable electricity, practical uses for hydrogen and finance for the installation. Enapter’s equipment can be relevant even when the wider hydrogen market develops slowly, but customer interest must become paid orders.
Financial progress
The H1 net loss was €30.9 million, including a €19.8 million campus impairment. Operating cash outflow was €10.3 million and June cash just €1.5 million. A further €17 million US receivable charge was announced for H2. The accounts identify material uncertainty over continued operation, so funding is central to the investment case.
Valuation and expectations
The approximately €30 million screening equity value on 4 November precedes completion of the rights issue. New shares can dilute existing holdings, while proceeds are intended mainly for liabilities and working capital. The proposed campus settlement may change debt materially, but neither its completion nor post-issue value should be assumed from June figures.
What would weaken the case
- The rights issue and debt settlement may not deliver the required funding on the expected terms or timetable.
- Losses, low cash and the going-concern uncertainty can outweigh technical progress.
- Partner production and a new US distributor introduce execution and collection risks while larger suppliers compete.
